Shi'ites Post Notices in Iraq Threatening Sunnis

On December 21, 2006, an Islamist website featured images of what it alleged were notices threatening Sunnis that were posted by Shi'ites in Iraq.

One notice, allegedly posted on the gate of a Sunni mosque, said: "Beware, approaching this mosque will bring about your violent death… Woe to the oppressors… Death to the aggressors… A curse upon you, oh servants of the occupiers." The announcement is signed by the "Shi'ite Death Squads."

Another announcement says: "We have [already] warned you [Sunnis] more than once, and today [we warn you] for the last time, to leave Basra and not return, [since Basra] belongs to the followers of Ahl Al-Bayt [i.e. to the Shi'ites]… If you do not comply… you will be doomed to Hell…"

Jihad in Waziristan Video: President Bush "Latter Day Pharaoh"

On November 12, 2006, Islamist websites posted a 28-minute video about jihad in Waziristan, a region in northwest Pakistan on the Afghan border. The film shows the fighting between the jihad fighters and the Pakistani army in this region.

The first part of the film shows Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf talking to military personnel and to Pakistani civilians; skirmishes between jihad fighters and Pakistani soldiers; and images of U.S. President George Bush, referred to in the film as "the latter-day Pharaoh," on a visit to Pakistan.

The next part shows jihad fighters training in a mountainous region. An announcer, speaking in a Pakistani dialect, interlaces his speech with Koranic verses such as "Prepare against them what force you can" [Koran 8:60]," and with hadiths such as: "If you abandon jihad, Allah will bring degradation upon you."

This is followed by footage of jihad fighters carrying out various field operations: firing mortars to cries of "Allah Akbar," singing jihad songs, preparing an explosive charge with nails, and shooting at unseen targets. This footage is accompanied by a song in Arabic which says, among other things, "Fight for Allah and kill those who fight for the head of the infidels. Kill the minions of Satan."

In the final part of the film, the fighters are shown arming themselves and setting out on a night operation. The picture is dim and explosions are heard. The film then shows the bodies of Pakistani soldiers, presumably killed by the jihad fighters, while a jihad song in a Pakistani dialect is hear in the background. Finally, a Pakistani military camp is shown on fire, with jihad fighters looting it.
