On May 17, 2022, Iran's official media reported that Iranian Ababil-2 drones will be manufactured in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.[1] An inauguration ceremony was attended by Mohammad Bagheri, the Iranian Armed Forces Chief of Staff, and Sherali Mirzo, Tajikistan's Minister of Defense, where both spoke of future cooperation between the two countries to fight "terrorism, organized crime, and drug trafficking."

Iran unveiled several new drones in an April 18 military parade, including the latest in the Ababil line – the Ababil-5.[3]
