On October 23, 2017, the pro-Islamic State (ISIS) tech entity Electronic Horizon Foundation (EHF) published a tutorial on using the chat app Riot.im.
Riot.im is a decentralized and encrypted chat platform that is based on Matrix, a decentralized open standard communication platform.
A day later, EHF explained its support for Riot.im, noting user privacy concerns with regard to Telegram and other social media platforms, while pointing to the user's ability to control the servers on which their Riot.im data is stored as the main advantage that Riot.im has over the other platforms.
