Pro-Islamic State (ISIS) Outlet Releases Step-By-Step Manual To Equip Drones With Video System Using Custom-Made 3D-Printed Mount

March 20, 2025

On March 11, 2025, a pro-Islamic State (ISIS) outlet devoted to instructing supporters on how to manufacture explosives and warfare materials, released a manual in English and Arabic with step-by-step instructions on how to assemble and add a camera system to a First-Person View (FPV) drone. It explains how drone video systems are added in to be compatible with already installed systems and software on the drone. The manual notes that video systems and accessories are readily available from electronics shops or online marketplaces that offer a variety of options. Each of the following steps includes a corresponding photo illustrating the parts required.

Once assembled, the booklet recommends a few procedures to secure the flight performance. Users are required to fly the drone in order to calibrate it and receive a proper video stream. Such a step is important to ensure the drone flies in accordance with what the pilot expects, and does not collide with objects.
