On January 4, 2017, Syria-based jihadi preacher sheikh 'Abdallah Al-Muhaysini launched an online campaign urging Islamic organizations and Muslims around the world to donate money to help provide tents and heaters to Syrian refugees.
In the campaign, which was launched on the Al-Muhaysini Telegram channel, the Saudi preacher noted that a single tent and heater cost $150.00 and $25.00 respectively. In the campaign video, which was posted on YouTube, Al-Muhaysini, who provided a phone number for donors to contact via WhatsApp and Telegram, also blamed all the military factions in Syria, saying that they are responsible for the plight of the refugees.
