A French non-governmental organization was originally dedicated to ending "the occupation of the Palestinian territories." Recently, the organization has extended its mission to promoting the dismantlement of the State of Israel altogether, as attested by Instagram stories posted by the non-profit on July 8, 2024. It also has accused Israel of killing its own hostages in order to justify a “genocide” of the Palestinian people.
In France, antisemitism is not considered an opinion but a crime, and is hence illegal and punishable by law. In 2019, France became one of the countries to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism. This definition includes as being antisemitic “denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g., by claiming that the existence of the State of Israel is a racist endeavor.” Accordingly, it appears that the non-profit organization is antisemitic.
Following are details.
General Information
From its inception and until today, the group has organized anti-Israeli demonstrations and BDS campaigns in France. Until recently, their official line was to support a two-state solution. However, recent Instagram stories reveal that it has adopted a harder stance, namely supporting the dismantlement of Israel - presumably to be replaced by the State of Palestine.
In past activism campaigns, the organization was in contact with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), designated by France an illegal terrorist organization. In addition to publishing PFLP updates, the organization’s website widely covered the Salah Hamouri affair, both on its website (it has withdrawn articles connected to Hamouri and PFLP since then) and on its X - formerly twitter - account. An PFLP-affiliated activist from east Jerusalem holding French citizenship, Hamouri was eventually released from prison and has resumed his activism in France since then.
