Introduction

White supremacist and neo-Nazi extremism continues to rise around the world. This phenomenon reaches far outside of its expected strongholds of Europe and North America, spreading into South America, Australia, Southern Africa, and even East Asia. The MEMRI DTTM project has been monitoring white supremacist and neo-Nazi extremism globally for going on five years, and currently monitors extremist groups and individuals on all six inhabited continents, analyzing online content in well over a dozen languages.

The following report, compiled from analyses provided by the DTTM's team of researchers around the world, offers insights into the current state of extremism in some of the countries that we monitor. This is a snapshot of the way global events, trends, and crises impact the extremist space, and highlights some of the key groups and individuals currently operating within these contexts, and the emerging challenges on the subject of extremism that each of these countries face. These findings and analyses of the political and social climate in these countries offer insight into how and why the unique extremist landscape in these contexts have emerged.

The list of countries included in this report – which includes Australia, Austria, the Baltic Nations, Canada, France, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, South Africa, Spain, Mexico, Brazil, and the UK – is by no means exhaustive, and is merely a sample of the countries, languages, groups and ideologies reported on by the MEMRI DTTM team.
