On March 19, 2024, Ismael Haniyeh, Head of Hamas's Political Bureau, sent a cable to the President of the Russian Federation Russian, Vladimir Putin, congratulating him on winning the Russian presidential elections.[1]
A Hamas press release stated that, in his cable, Haniyeh praised the Russian position in support of the Palestinian cause and support in "the battle to defend our people against the Israeli occupation, one of the most important arm of the American hegemony in the Middle East."
He added that Hamas "looks forward to strengthening ties of friendship and means of bilateral cooperation. "
Haniyeh further wished Putin success in his endeavors to serve the interests of the Russian people, and praised his effort to "build a multipolar global system that does justice to oppressed peoples," according to the press release.
