On March 19, 2024, Mahdi Al-Mushat, Head of the Supreme Political Council of Yemen's Iran-backed Ansar Allah (Houthis) sent a cable to President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, congratulating him on winning the presidential elections.[1]
"I am pleased to send your excellency my cordial congratulations on winning the confidence of the Russian people and your victory in the presidential elections that were recently held in a competitive and free atmosphere," said Field Marshal Al-Mushat.
He further argued that Putin's win deals a heavy blow to the United States and its western allies:
"Your win in the presidential elections is considered a defeat for America and the West, and it is an indication of the failure of all the efforts made by America and the West to disturb the Russian internal situation. America and the West must respect the will and decision of the Russian people."
Concluding, he called on Putin to strengthen bilateral relations with Yemen.
"We in the Republic of Yemen look forward to strengthening the distinguished relations between our two friendly countries; wishing you success in your future tasks, and further development and growth for your friendly country."
