ISMP Claims Burning Over 230 Christian Houses In Series Of Attacks In Mozambique's Nampula Province

On April 26, 2024, the Islamic State Mozambique Province (ISMP) claimed[1] that on April 25, its operatives attacked the village of Nassua, in the Erati district of Mozambique's Nampula province, capturing and killing an "unbeliever" Christian with machine gun fire, causing residents to flee, and setting fire to a church, two Christian schools, nearly 190 houses, and three motorcycles.

Another statement from the same day claimed[2] that ISMP operatives assaulted the Christian village of Manika in Erati, Nampula, burning a church, a Christian school, and over 30 houses.

On April 27, ISMP claimed[3] that on April 26, its operatives assaulted the Christian village of Mitaca in Erati, Nampula, where they clashed with the Mozambican army with machine guns, wounding several forces and burning 11 houses.

ISMP Operatives Conduct "Preaching Tour" In Muslim Villages In Northern Mozambique During Eid Al-Fitr

On April 29, ISMP published[4] a photoset documenting its operatives conducting "preaching efforts" in several Muslim villages in northern Mozambique. According to a report in issue 439 of Islamic State (ISIS) weekly Al-Naba', published[5] on April 19, ISMP operatives conducted a "preaching tour" in several Muslim villages in Mozambique's northern Cabo Delgado province during Eid Al-Fitr, where they met and prayed with residents, delivered religious sermons, and answered questions. The photos show residents sitting together and listening to speeches by ISMP operatives, waving jihadi flags, and praying.

In mid-February 2024, ISMP claimed a series of attacks against Christian villages in northern Mozambique, killing six civilians and burning 11 churches and over 150 houses.[6] Issue 427 of Al-Naba' reported about an ISMP preaching campaign in northern Mozambique.[7]
