On September 28, 2024, Lebanese Hizbullah released a statement announcing that Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah had been killed in a "treacherous" Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) strike the day before against the group's headquarters in Beirut's southern suburbs.[1]

The eulogy opened with a quotation from Quran 4:74: "So let those fight in the cause of Allah who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter. And he who fights in the cause of Allah and is killed or achieves victory – We will bestow upon him a great reward."

"His Eminence, the master of the resistance, the righteous servant, has passed away to be with his Lord as a great martyr, a heroic, bold, brave, wise, insightful, and faithful leader. He joined the caravan of martyrs of the eternal, gleaming Karbala' in the divine path of faith in the footsteps of the prophets and martyred Imams," the statement said.

The Hizbullah release celebrated Nasrallah's 32-year career as secretary-general, during which he led the organization from one victory to another, from assuming the leadership of the party in 1992, to the liberation of Lebanon in 2000, to the "glorious divine" victory in the summer of 2006.

Nasrallah's leadership culminated, the statement stressed, with joining "the battle of support and heroism in support of Palestine, Gaza, and the oppressed Palestinian people," added the statement.

Further, Hizbullah extended condolences to Iran's Supreme Leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei, the "honorable [Shi'ite]" authorities, all mujahideen, the believers, the nation of resistance, the persevering Lebanese people, the entire Islamic nation, all the free and oppressed people in the world, and his honorable and patient family.

The statement further congratulated Nasrallah for receiving the "highest divine medals" and dying as martyr "on the path to Jerusalem and Palestine." In addition, it eulogized Nasrallah's "fellow martyrs" who were also killed in the airstrike on the southern suburb.

"The Hizbullah command pledges to the most supreme, holiest, and dearest martyr in our path full of sacrifices and martyrs, to continue its jihad in confronting the enemy, supporting Gaza and Palestine, and defending Lebanon and its steadfast and honorable people," the statement declared.

It concluded calling on the mujahideen the "Islamic Resistance" to remain committed to the pledge of loyalty and commitment to resistance and sacrifice until victory.
