On January 15, 2025, Israel and Hamas reached a 42-day ceasefire and hostage release agreement in the Gaza Strip, according to President Joe Biden and other officials involved in the negotiations.

The following are statements released by Palestinian factions celebrating the ceasefire:

Hamas: "The Deal Is The Fruit Of The Legendary Steadfastness Of Our Great People"

Hamas released a statement commenting on the ceasefire announcement, describing it as "the fruit of the legendary steadfastness of our great Palestinian people and our valiant resistance in the Gaza Strip, for more than 15 months."[1]

According to the group, halting the Israeli military from operating in Gaza is a Palestinian achievement, a product of the "resistance, our nation and the free people of the world." It added: "It is a turning point in the conflict with the enemy, on the path to achieving our people's goals: liberation and return."

Hamas further expressed its appreciation of "all the honorable officials and people who showed solidarity with Gaza, stood with our people, and contributed to exposing the occupation and stopping the aggression." The statement extended the group's gratitude to the mediators, "who made great efforts to arrive at this agreement, especially Qatar and Egypt."

The Palestinian Resistance Movement: "We Praise The Sacrifices Of The Valiant Support Fronts In Yemen, Lebanon, And Iraq"

The Palestinian Resistance Movement also commented on the deal.[2] The group's statement glorified the "sacrifices" of the Palestinian people, saying they reflect a combination of triumph, resilience, and defiance in the face of what it describes as a "genocidal war" carried out by the "Nazi Zionist government." It simultaneously condemned what it perceives as global betrayal and complicity, by highlighting the role of the "criminal American administration" and other forces of "evil," framing the conflict as part of a larger moral battle.

The statement said: "After more than fifteen months of legendary steadfastness and great sacrifices made by our people in the face of a war of genocide and ethnic cleansing practiced by the Nazi Zionist government, supported by the criminal American administration and all the forces of evil in the world, our people and their resistance in Gaza have obtained a ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange, and foiled the enemy's plans for displacement and elimination of the resistance."

The statement highlighted the role of "international support" for the resistance, particularly from Yemen, Lebanon, and Iraq.

"We praise the sacrifices of the valiant support fronts in Yemen, Lebanon, and Iraq, who supported Gaza at a time of international betrayal and collusion, and we pray for mercy for their righteous martyrs from the mujahideen and heroic leaders."

The document concluded with a rallying cry, urging mediators and international allies to maintain pressure on Israel and support the Palestinian cause. It called for continued solidarity and resistance until the "Zionist occupation" is dismantled.

"We praise the role of the mediators, especially our brothers in Egypt and Qatar, in the negotiations that led to the agreement, and we also salute all the free people in the world who came out in support of the Palestinian people and in rejecting the Zionist holocaust, and we call on them to continue their activities and pressure until our people gain their freedom and the hateful Zionist occupation is eliminated."

Video: Operatives Of Hamas's Al-Qassam Brigades Take To The Streets In Celebration

The Telegram channel "Gaza Now" shared three videos showing Gazans celebrating the ceasefire deal.[3] The footage shows armed operatives celebrating with civilians. The caption read: "Hamas' military wing, the 'Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam Brigades, celebrating with their people in Gaza."
