In a report from November 19, 2024, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a Syrian opposition outlet, counted 89 attacks by Iran-backed groups on American bases in Syria since the start of 2024. These attacks included both drone attacks and missile fire, originating in Syria and Iraq. In response, aerial and ground defenses in the bases were strengthened, the report added.[1]
In January 2024, the report counted 39 attacks on American bases, “leading to casualties and material damage,” including three dead soldiers.[2] February saw 15 attacks on American bases, leaving at least three American service members dead. Over the next months, American forces were on average targeted a handful of times each month, except October, when U.S. bases in Syria were attacked 12 times.
The SOHR report concluded that in total, since the beginning of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, American bases in Syria have been attacked 156 times, with the first on October 19, 2023.
