Announcing The Launch Of Upgraded MEMRI Jihad And Terrorism Threat Monitor Project (JTTM) Website

Special Announcements No. 290

As a reader of MEMRI, you are already familiar with MEMRI's work exploring the Middle East and South Asia through these regions' media and bridging the language gap between the West and these regions, providing timely translations of Arabic, Farsi, Urdu-Pashtu and Dari media, as well as original analysis of political, ideological, intellectual, social, cultural, and religious trends.

The Upgraded MEMRI JTTM Website

At this time, we are pleased to announce the launch of the upgraded subscription website of the MEMRI Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor (JTTM) Project. This project, which was established in 2009, has emerged as a database of vital research in the international battle against Al-Qaeda and other terror groups. Subscribers to MEMRI emails and readers of MEMRI.org already know about the MEMRI JTTM because of our regular complimentary releases of reports from it.

Subscribers Read About Events Days Before Mainstream Media Reports On Them

JTTM subscribers often read in MEMRI about developments days before they reach the mainstream media. Just recently, the JTTM reported that Al-Qaeda had officially broken ties with the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) – days before the story was reported by the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, Fox News, and others.

Translations And Analysis From Sources Monitored Around The Clock

The translations and analysis that comprise the JTTM Project are based on MEMRI's access to both open and password-protected sources monitored around the clock, including online media such as first-tier Al-Qaeda websites as well as dozens of the most important Islamist sites and blogs, and from print, visual, and audio media, in addition to social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, and more. The project scrutinizes Islamist terrorism and violent extremism worldwide, with special focus on activity within and emanating from the Arab world, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran.

Categories And Topics

Following Al-Qaeda's and other global jihad organizations' shift in recent years to encouraging lone-wolf attacks by individuals acting on their own, the MEMRI JTTM focuses not only organizations in the Arab and Muslim world, but also on jihadis and jihadi activity in the West. These threats may be against national security and public safety in the U.S. and other Western countries, or against these countries' crucial interests and assets worldwide. The project also examines and analyzes the ideological motivations behind these threats, and includes over a decade of archives of exclusive content on jihad and terrorism. The thousands of pages of translations and hundreds of hours of translated videos in the JTTM archives are into sections for the following categories:

Alerts, Planning, and Training: Possible threats, plans for attacks, and more.

  • Global Jihad News: General news and information from the various jihadi fronts.
  • In-Depth Threat Analysis: Analysis focusing on specific individuals, groups, individuals, and regions.
