Since Hamas' October 7, 2023 attack in southern Israel, in which some 1,200 people were murdered and some 240 were kidnapped, the Egyptian media, including the state press, have published very harsh and sometimes antisemitic cartoons that blame Israel and the U.S. for the escalation in Gaza. The cartoons accuse these countries of pursuing a plan to exterminate the people of Gaza and show Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and U.S. President Biden celebrating the bloodshed there. Recurring themes of blood and murdered children are used to depict Israel and Netanyahu as barbaric killers. Some cartoons portray Israel as Nazi and Netanyahu as Hitler.
These cartoons reflect the anti-Israel line taken by the Egyptian media since the outbreak of the war in Gaza.[1] It should be mentioned that some of the cartoons are old ones that have been republished.
