On April 17, 2024, Afghan news outlet Watan News published a Dari-language report based on interviews with Afghan commentators in Herat province who accused human rights experts of supporting "a full-scale genocide by the Zionist regime" in Gaza and expressed support for Hamas and other groups who fight for Palestinians.
The report is titled "Experts In Herat: Those Who Claim To Be Defendant Of Human Rights Are Supporters Of Genocide In Gaza," but it mentions only one expert by name. The Herat province of Afghanistan borders Iran and Turkmenistan.
"The selfishness and self-glorification of the Israeli regime has caused the cruelty of this regime to rise, and the constant support of the criminal America, which, in addition to defending the genocide in Gaza, has committed crimes in many other countries of the world, continues it," the report observes.

"As the tensions in the region increase, political experts in Herat emphasize that the inaction of the United Nations and the support of so-called human rights defenders from the ongoing oppression in Gaza has caused the continuation of a full-scale genocide by the Zionist regime. According to them, the current tensions in the region are also due to the perpetuation of the oppression of the Zionist regime, and collective measures must be taken by Islamic countries to dismantle this oppression.
"Seyed Jalal Qari, a political expert and activist in the cultural field, in a conversation with Watan24 news agency, says that the world is witnessing terror and crime in Palestine today, the history of which dates back to more than 70 years ago. According to him, the Israeli regime, as the occupier and usurper of the Muslim land, has been killing and committing crimes in front of Muslims for more than 70 years.
"Referring to the importance of the reciprocal attack of the Islamic Republic of Iran deep into the occupied territories, he emphasized that the Israeli regime, with the support of those who claim to defend human rights and even under the support of the United Nations, commits crimes and attacks the consulates of independent countries, which must receive a decisive response, and it received it. 'Today, the Islamic Ummah is angry about the ongoing oppression in Gaza, and any movement aimed at supporting the oppressed is liked by the Islamic world...'
