Former Russian President Medvedev On Russia's Use Of Nuclear Weapons: 'It Will Be The End, A Giant Gray Molten Stain On The Site Of [Kyiv]'

Russia | Special Dispatch No. 11566

On his Telegram channel, former Russian president and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev commented recently on the possibility that the West will allow Kyiv to strike Russian territory using Western weapons. Medvedev stated that the West does not believe that Moscow will answer with a nuclear strike. Yet, he said  that everybody may think it is impossible until it happens. "It will be the end. A giant gray molten stain on the site of the 'Mother of Rus' Cities' [i.e., Kyiv]. Holy shit! It's impossible, but it happened..."

On September 16, 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged Western allies: "Only a systemic solution makes it possible to oppose this terror: the long-range solution to destroy Russian military aviation where it is based... We are waiting for appropriate decisions coming primarily from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy."[1]

It is worth noting that on September 13, 2024, Russia expelled six UK diplomats, accusing them of "espionage and subversive activities."[2]

Below is Medvedev's post:[3]

"A Giant Gray Molten Stain On The Site Of The 'Mother Of Rus' Cities' [i.e., Kyiv]"

"What do Western bosses and their political establishment, who got carried away playing war, think about our country's response to probable missile strikes 'deep into [Russian] territory'? Here's what [they think]: the Russians talk a lot about response with weapons of mass destruction but do nothing. These are just 'verbal interventions.' Russians will not cross the line. They are simply scaremongering. They do not need a nuclear conflict, they have more to lose, including the support of the 'Global South.' Who needs an apocalypse, anyways? And so forth, in a similar vein.

"What could be said: no one indeed wants a nuclear conflict. It is a very bad story with the gravest outcome. That is exactly why the decision to use (non-strategic, much less strategic) nuclear arms has not been made so far. Although, frankly speaking, there are formal prerequisites for this, understandable to the entire world community and consistent with our doctrine of nuclear deterrence. Take the same Kursk [incursion of Ukrainian troops], for example. However, Russia demonstrates patience. After all, it is obvious that a nuclear response is an extremely difficult decision with irreversible consequences.

"However, the pompous Anglo-Saxon bastards do not want to admit one thing: any patience does have an end. And those moderate Western analysts, who warned, end up being right: 'Yes, the Russians will most likely not respond in such a way... However, there is still a possibility. Besides, the response could also be conducted with new means of delivery [of a warhead] equipped with non-nuclear load.'

"It will be the end. A giant gray molten stain on the site of the 'Mother of Rus' Cities' [i.e., Kyiv].[4] Holy shit! It's impossible, but it happened..."[5]
