While international attention is focused on the conflicts raging in Syria and Egypt, it appears that jihadi forces from Pakistan, led by the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, are expanding their mission eastward, notably to Burma (now Myanmar) and Bangladesh, and in the long term to India. Also, there are reports connecting some jihadis from Indonesia and faraway Fiji back to Pakistan. This paper examines some of the recent statements of Al-Qaeda and the Taliban leaders to explain how Pakistan-based jihadi leaders are increasingly articulating their jihadi ambitions for the wider South and Southeast Asian region.
