Bahrain, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Palestinians | Special Dispatch No. 11659

Donald Trump’s reelection as U.S. president was welcomed by Arab liberal journalists and writers, who expressed hope for change and stability in the Middle East, and wrote that Trump’s victory is a victory for the moderate axis in the region and a defeat for Iran and its militias.

The following is a sampling of these responses:

Trump's Victory Is “A Nightmare For The Terrorist Militias”

Bahraini journalist Ahdeya Ahmed Al-Sayed wrote: "President Donald Trump’s return [to the White House] is a nightmare for the terrorist militias and a new hope for stability in the Middle East."[1]

Saudi journalist Ghassan Ibrahim, who lives in London and is the founder of the news service Global Arab Network, wrote on his X account: "Trump's victory is a victory for Israel in its war against terrorism. Trump has previously shown strong support for Israel, and he will continue this support, which could give Israel more freedom in its fight against Hizbullah's terrorism."[2]

Ibrahim Ghassan’s post

In another post, he wrote: “Trump’s victory is a victory for the moderate axis in the Middle East and an expansion of the war on Iran’s terror and militias.” [3]

"Senior Saudi journalist Tariq Al-Homayed shared an AP report noting that the Iranian rial has dropped to an all-time low following Trumps’ election, and remarked: “The report speaks for itself.”[4]

We Will Not Settle For Less Than Khamenei’s Head

Paris-based Algerian liberal Anwar Malek wrote: “In his previous term, Trump eliminated [Qods Force commander] Qassem Soleimani, and in his current term, we will not settle for less than the head of the crook, [Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei. There is no choice but to overthrow the regime of the turbaned [Ayatollahs] in Tehran... [We] also wait [to see] the fate of the butcher Bashar Al-Assad, so that Syria will calm down and its glorious people will be satisfied, and the same goes for the little qat-addicted Houthi [leader] in the caves of Yemen, [a country] that will be happy to be liberated from [Iran’s] Revolutionary Guards [Corps] and purged of the servants of the Ayatollahs."[5]

Saudi journalist Abd Al-Aziz Al-Khames wrote on X: 'The Hamas lunatics are saying: ‘The Democratic Party’s loss [in the presidential election] is the natural price it must pay for its 'criminal' stance on Gaza. [They speak] as if the winner [Trump] is an ally of theirs. What you saw during Biden's term, you will see ten times worse during Trump's term."[6]

Palestinian journalist Ayman Khaled wrote: 'The world is on the brink of change. The time has come for Iran, the Houthis, Hamas, Hizbullah and all [of Iran’s] militias to weep."[7]

Ayman Khaled’s post

In another post, he wrote: “The real defeat is of ‘the father of the wars,’ Obama, who paved the way for the rise of Iran and its militias. I am not overly optimistic, but removing the obstacle of the Democrats is an important achievement in bringing change to the region.” [8]

The Middle East Can Finally Breathe In Relief

Amjad Taha, a Bahraini political analyst who lives in Britain, wrote in English: “Congratulations to the U.S.! America is great again, and the Middle East can finally breathe in peace. No more Muslim Brotherhood terrorists or Iran’s proxies. This isn’t about Trump or Kamala—it’s about a strong America, a strong world, and a safer one, where flags of Hezbollah and Hamas no longer rise in New York or D.C. #USAElection2024 #Trump2024.”[9]

Online influencer Loay Al-Shareef, who resides in the UAE, called to “make the Abraham Accords great again.”[10]
