MEMRI NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT TODAY – Please Consider Donating To Our Summer Campaign

July 2, 2024
Special Announcements No. 1497

As a subscriber to MEMRI research who has not yet donated, we would like to ask you at this time if you would consider doing so.

As you know, for the past quarter of a century, MEMRI has been providing vital research, primary source translations, and original analysis to the governments of the U.S. and its allies, and to their counterterrorism officials, law enforcement agencies, militaries, and other authorities, assisting them in tackling threats and facing adversaries. We work with news organizations and media to inform their understanding of the complexities of issues and developments in all these countries, and serve as a valuable resource for academia worldwide

Since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, MEMRI staff have been closely monitoring the Israel-Hamas war around the clock, seven days a week, publishing an unprecedented number of reports and clips – nearly 600 in the first eight weeks of the war. The translated MEMRI TV clips we released during this time have had over 80 million views.

MEMRI research, with its significant intelligence value, is filling a major void. We have been assisting governments worldwide, providing them with our latest research – in the U.S., Canada, Israel, and Europe. In MEMRI's 25th year, we again prove that we are on the cutting edge in this field.

MEMRI continues to extensively assist law enforcement agencies by means of informing and educating counterterrorism, law enforcement, and other authorities. Our research has assisted the Departments of State and Treasury, law enforcement, and other agencies. MEMRI Research was used in public forums by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and by National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby. MEMRI research is being shared on social media by prominent political leaders, including members of Congress. Notably, MEMRI has provided research and assistance for the Justice Department and other authorities in court cases against Hamas for its murder and kidnapping of American citizens on October 7.

As one of the most productive nonprofit think tanks in the U.S. focusing on the Middle East and South Asia and on threats to the U.S. and the West, our research output equals or surpasses that of similar organizations many times our size with many times our budget. So far in 2024, we have published over 510 translations, analysis pieces, and special analysis briefs, and released 442 MEMRI TV clips. On social media – YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram – and now WhatsApp – we have over 500,000 followers.

With the ongoing war in Gaza, the Iranian aggression, Qatar's ongoing support for jihadi terrorism, and heightened tensions in the region and across the U.S. and the West, including violent anti-Israel and antisemitic protests, our work is more crucial than ever. Please consider helping support MEMRI today. No other organization does the work that we are doing.

Your donation will directly support these areas of MEMRI's research focus:

MEMRI RESEARCH ON HAMAS: TRANSLATION AND ANALYSIS

Since October 7, 2023, when Hamas invaded southern Israel, killing over 1,200 people and kidnapping over 240 to Gaza, much of our focus has been on the Israel-Hamas war. We have translated and published statements by Hamas leaders, expressions of both support and condemnation for Hamas by government officials and in media from across the Arab and Muslim world, inflammatory antisemitic, anti-Israel, anti-U.S., and even pro-Hamas rhetoric by imams in mosques across the U.S. and the West, and much more . MEMRI maintains the largest archives in the world of translations of Hamas and Palestinian content over the past 25 years.

A compilation video of MEMRI TV clips of Hamas leaders' statements in the first three months of the war can be viewed by clicking here or by scanning the QR codes below. A compilation of reports on these statements from this period can be read here.

HIZBULLAH'S THREAT TO ISRAEL AND THE U.S. – AND HIZBULLAH ACTIVISTS INSIDE THE U.S.

As the Israel-Gaza war continues, the Iranian proxy Hizbullah's daily firing of rockets and drones into northern Israel is escalating. MEMRI's focus on Hizbullah in recent months has documented its threats to strike targets in the Mediterranean and even southern Europe in addition to Israel, as well as its calls to invest in the anti-Israel protests in universities across the West in order to "enter the heart of Western societies."

THE MEMRI SERMONS BY IMAMS IN THE WEST PROJECT – MONITORING HATE AND INCITEMENT TO JIHAD

MEMRI is closely monitoring manifestations of jihadism in the U.S. Our Sermons by Imams in the West project publishes MEMRI TV clips of hate-filled sermons by imams throughout the U.S. and Canada, including expressions of support for the October 7 Hamas attacks, appeals to Allah to annihilate all the Jews, "the brothers of apes and pigs," and more. These clips have prompted widespread criticism from political leaders and public apologies from some imams, and has even led to arrests and deportations. One focus has been Dearborn, Michigan and its environs, the epicenter of jihadism in the U.S.

JIHAD IN AMERICA – THE MEMRI JIHAD & TERRORISM STUDIES PROJECT

MEMRI is also following the growing pro-jihad element of the pro-Palestinian protests, both on and off college and university campuses, including with the involvement of the PFLP-affiliated Samidoun organization, the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), and others. On jihadi platforms, online activists are encouraging student protestors to take their activism to the next level – lone wolf and other attacks in the West.

MEMRI Executive Director Steven Stalinsky was the first to write in a major publication about designated terror organizations' involvement in the student protests on campuses across the U.S. His op-ed titled "Who's Behind the Anti-Israel Protests – Hamas, Hezbollah, The Houthis And Others Are Grooming Activists In The U.S. And Across The West" was published by the Wall Street Journal on April 22, 2024.

EXPOSING QATAR/MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD AND ITS AL-JAZEERA TV

MEMRI extensively covers Qatar, the Wahhabi/Muslim Brotherhood extremist entity in the guise of a purportedly modern nation state that is the world's largest sponsor of Islamist terrorism, which is promoted worldwide, inter alia, via its Al-Jazeera news network. To Western eyes, it depicts itself as a modern Westernized political player, engaged in conflict mediation, usually in order to legitimize the terrorist organizations it supports, such as Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, and Hamas. It is notable that an Israeli court decision to ban Al-Jazeera TV cited MEMRI research on the channel's constituting "a real risk to state security."

THE MEMRI IRAN MEDIA STUDIES PROJECT

Our Iran Media Project closely follows developments in Iran – including its nuclear development, as more and more top regime officials indicate in their statements that Iran is close to nuclear breakout and about to join the world's nuclear club. This, they say, is because of the threat that Iran faces from Israel. It will be recalled that Iran is determined, as expressed many times, to eliminate Israel, against which it launched the largest missile attack in history in April.

MEMRI RESEARCH ON THE HOUTHIS

The MEMRI Iran Threat Monitor publishes hundreds of reports on the activity and threats of the Iranian proxy Ansar Allah (Houthis) in Yemen. This Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity has recently escalated its threats and attacks on U.S. naval vessels and Western commercial shipping, as well as its threats to Israel.

MEMRI RESEARCH ON THE IRAN-BACKED IRAQI SHI'ITE MILITIAS

The Iran Threat Monitor also closely follows these Iranian proxy militias in Iraq, that threaten U.S. and Western forces and interests in Iraq and elsewhere. They include the Ansar Allah Al-Awfiyaa', that just last week was named a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the State Department.
