Pakistani Taliban Take Over Coal Mines
The Taliban have taken over control of coal mines in the tribal area of Dar Adam Khel, some 40 km south of Peshawar. The mines had been closed for three years over the issue of distribution of royalties between local tribes and the government. According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Mashriq, 22 truckloads of coal was mined on the first day under Taliban control. Five thousand people are employed in the coal mines in the area.

Maulana Siraj-ul-Haq, the Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province, has warned of a nationwide jihad if the U.S. forces attack the Pakistan's tribal region in the pursuit of the Taliban militants. Perhaps for the first time in the history of Islam, a Muslim woman has solemnized nikah, or the marriage ceremony, of a Muslim couple in India's northern city of Lucknow. Al-Qaeda commander Abu Saeed al-Masri and three other foreign militants were among 23 people killed during the fighting between the Taliban and Pakistani security forces in the tribal district of Bajaur Agency. Pakistani Daily: Militant Commander Killed In Indian Kashmir
An operational commander of the Al-Badr militant group was killed during an armed confrontation in the Indian Kashmir, according to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Nawa-i-Waqt. The paper said that Sultan Bhatt was killed in the shootout with the Indian soldiers in the Baramulla district of Indian Kashmir. Two civilians were also killed.

Taliban Occupy Key Areas In Pakistan's Bajaur District
The Taliban have occupied several areas in Pakistan's tribal district of Bajaur Agency. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jang reported that the Taliban have taken control of the surrounding areas of Khar, the main town of Bajaur Agency. According to the report, eyewitnesses spoke of the Taliban establishing security checkposts and controlling all routes to Khar. The previous day, Pakistan abandoned the fighting in the Loisam areas after 150 security personnel were surrounded by the Taliban. The paper also said that some 100 Taliban militants have been killed during four days of military operation in the Bajaur district.

Bajaur Agency: Dozens Of Taliban Militants Killed
Pakistani security forces have killed 35 Taliban militants in the tribal district of Bajaur Agency, situated on the border with Afghanistan. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jasarat reported that at least six Pakistani security personnel were also killed during the fighting that began on Thursday. According to the report, Taliban spokesman Maulvi Omar claimed that the number of security men killed was 16. Pakistan has begun a military operation against the Taliban in Bajaur Agency's Loisam and surrounding areas. According to the report, more than 100 Pakistani security men were surrounded by the Taliban militants who denied them water and food supplies.

Taliban spokesman Maulvi Omar has said that Pakistan's commercial capital of Karachi is a Taliban stronghold. Pakistan Army Launches Operation Against Taliban In Swat District

U.S. Strike Kills Al-Qaeda Chemical Expert
Al-Qaeda chemical weapons expert Midhat Misri Al-Sayid Umar has been killed in a U.S. strike in Pakistan's tribal district of South Waziristan, according to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Express. The paper said that a U.S. missile hit a madrassa in Azam Warsak, a village in the South Waziristan district, killing seven people. Sindh Province Minister: Madrassas In Sindh Are Involved In Terrorism
Sindh Province Minister of Law Ayaz Soomro has said that some madrassas in the province are involved in terrorism and anti-government activities. Iran, Pakistan To Set Up Joint Ulema Committee
Pakistan and Iran have agreed to set up a joint committee of Shia and Sunni scholars to help resolve the Shia-Sunni conflict in Pakistan. 'Roznama Jang' Report: 8,000 Foreign Fighters In Pakistan's Tribal Districts
A report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jang has put the number of foreign fighters active in Pakistan's tribal districts at about 8,000. The paper reported that the government would not confirm the figures in the report, which were presented to Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani in advance of Gilani's visit to the U.S. next week. However, Pakistani Internal Security adviser Rahman Malik put the number at about 1,000. According to the report, during a cabinet meeting on July 20, Rahman Malik said that the government would need to use force against the foreign fighters if the conflict in the tribal districts was not resolved through talks.

Rahman Malik, adviser on homeland security to the Pakistani prime minister, has said that the "mask-clad Taliban are the new face of Al-Qaeda." The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Ausaf quoted him as saying that the war against the terrorists will not end until peace is established in the North West Frontier Province. According to the report, Rahman Malik said that Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud is receiving help from the militants based across the border in Afghanistan. He said the government will not sign any kind of agreement with the Taliban in the tribal districts, which are controlled by Baitullah Mehsud.

Turkey Arrests 75 Pakistanis En Route To Europe
The Turkish military has arrested 75 Pakistani nationals who were preparing to enter Europe. The Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jang reported that the 75 Pakistanis were among a large number of illegal migrants from Afghanistan and Bangladesh. According to the report, the migrants were planning to go to different cities of Europe via Greece. The Turkish military handed over the 75 Pakistanis and others to the local police in Turkey after an initial inquiry.

Police Chief: Um-e-Hasan Is Training Girls As Suicide Bombers
According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jasarat, the inspector-general of Police in the Pakistani province of Punjab, Shaukat Javed, has said that Um-e-Hasan, the wife of Islamabad's Red Mosque cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz, is training girls to be suicide bombers. Um-e-Hasan is also the principal of the women's madrassa Jamia Hafsa, which is adjacent to the Islamabad's Red Mosque. In 2007, Jamia Hafsa students backed by fighters loyal to Maulana Abdul Aziz occupied a government building in the Pakistani capital for several months, leading to a military operation. The paper quoted Shaukat Javed as saying that Um-e-Hasan is training her students to be suicide bombers, but gave no further details.

Containers With Radioactive Material Seized In Karachi
Two unclaimed sealed containers containing radioactive material have been seized from the Korangi area of Karachi, according to the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Khabrain. The paper said that the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority had ordered an investigation into the incident and quoted unnamed sources as saying that the material could be used in making nuclear bombs.
