For over two decades, MEMRI has been meeting the challenge of bridging the language gap between the Arab and Muslim world – including Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and North Africa – and the West, providing vital research, translations from primary sources, and original analysis. This research assists governments, policy makers, law enforcement and intelligence agencies, media, academia, and the general public in gaining a greater understanding of what is really being said in the region.
As antisemitism is on the rise worldwide, from both jihadi and white supremacist sources, MEMRI is monitoring and documenting it. And, since Russia is no less enigmatic to the West than the Middle East, MEMRI's Russian Media Studies Project publishes translations from Russian media in addition to original analysis, focusing on the discourse within the Russian political and defense community.
MEMRI is one of the world's most productive think tanks focusing on Middle East and South Asian affairs. So far in 2019, we have published 303 Special Dispatch translations and 37 Inquiry and Analysis reports and 16 Daily Briefs, released 396 MEMRI TV clips that have had a total of over 20 million views, and sent out 428 emails of translations and research to readers like you.
Today, we are asking our valued readers to help us continue our work. Thank you for your consideration.
No other organization does the work that MEMRI does.
MEMRI's dedicated staff is hard at work around the clock and across the globe, seven days a week, 365 days a year, producing cutting-edge research on the entire region. MEMRI research covers:
-
Iran – The MEMRI Iran Media Studies Project monitors, studies, and translates content from Iranian media on a day-to-day basis, including statements by regime, military, and religious leaders. Its work is more vital than ever now, in light of the current U.S.-Iran tension, and as Iran continues to expand its presence in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Yemen, and elsewhere.
-
Saudi Arabia and the Gulf – MEMRI is closely monitoring the Gulf region, as these countries too come under attack from Iran. Other focuses are the growing Israel-Gulf relations in light of these tensions, and the ongoing struggle against repression on the domestic scene.
-
South Asia – The MEMRI South Asia Studies Project publishes reports and in-depth analytical research tracking and analyzing trends in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India, including issues connected to cultural and religious freedom, emerging threats to international security, and the spread of jihadism in the region.
-
Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon – Iraq, where Iran-backed Shi'ite militias grow in strength and Iran takes control of the Iraqi financial and banking system; Syria, as President Assad regains control of the country and victory is declared against the last vestiges of ISIS; and Lebanon, where the Iran-backed Hezbollah and its allies hold a sizeable majority in the Lebanese government and Hezbollah opens a new front against Israel, tunneling into it from southern Lebanon.
-
Palestinian Authority and Gaza – As Arab voices emerge urging the Palestinians not to reject the Trump peace plan, Palestinian Authority officials continue to declare their support for terrorists, as state-sponsored preachers disseminate jihad and antisemitism and Hamas fires more Iranian-made missiles into the heart of Israel.
-
Russia – The Russian Media Studies Program closely follows Russia's words and deeds, as the country further expands its role and influence throughout the Middle East, particularly in connection with Iran and Syria, and bolsters its alliances with parts of Europe, South America, and more.
YOUR DONATION HELPS PROJECTS THAT STILL NEED FUNDING IN 2019
With your tax-deductible gift, you can help us fund the following projects for this year:
-
Sermons Project – Exposing radical imams preaching anti-Semitism, Holocaust denial, and extremism. Recent MEMRI TV clips of hate-filled sermons by imams throughout the U.S. and Canada have prompted widespread criticism from political leaders and public apologies from some imams.
-
Online Incitement Project – Examining white-supremacist incitement, hatred, and extremism on social media – and where it coincides and intersects with jihadi incitement, hatred, and extremism on social media.
-
Reform Project – Seeking out and amplifying the voices of Arab and Muslim figures and intellectuals who preach tolerance, coexistence, promote civil, human, and women's rights, and speak out against and counter hatred, anti-Semitism, and jihad.
-
MEMRI TV – MEMRI TV research is an increasingly costly endeavor. Producing MEMRI TV clips demands advanced technology and extensive human expertise – from monitoring, recording, and reviewing raw programming to translating, captioning, and uploading clips. This project maintains the largest archives in the world of such translated content.
-
MEMRI Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor (JTTM) Project – Monitoring, tracking, and researching organizations and groups such as ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and their offshoots and sympathizers across the globe. In the past two years, MEMRI has provided U.S. law enforcement with massive amounts of information on jihadis in over 30 U.S. states, and has done the same for authorities across the West – leading, in many cases, to arrests and prosecutions.
-
The MEMRI Cyber and Jihad Lab (CJL) – Tracking and researching jihadi and other hacktivist groups and activity emanating from the Middle East, Iran, and South Asia, and studying jihadis on social media and online. The project works with tech companies to help devise solutions for dealing with this online content, and with legislatures to help develop laws for tackling it.
-
The MEMRI Turkish Media Project – We are seeking to resume research for this project, after a suspension of activity for a few years, in light of the rising tension between the U.S. and Turkey, headed by its Islamist president, Erdoğan, in addition to the increasingly virulent antisemitism in the country and the growing repression of opposition, including media.
In all 50 U.S. states and Washington, DC, politicians, decision-makers, counterterrorism officials, and first responders turn to MEMRI for research:
-
U.S. Congress – MEMRI meets regularly with staff of leading Republican and Democratic members of Congress and committees, sharing our latest research on the Middle East and terrorism and discussing ways of helping to stop online terror recruitment and funding.
-
The White House and federal agencies – the Departments of State, Homeland Security, and Justice; the National Counterterrorism Center; and TSA: All receive the latest MEMRI research on emerging terrorism threats and trends.
-
Governments, law enforcement and counterterrorism authorities – in all 50 U.S. states and worldwide, who are fighting terrorism, extremism, and anti-Semitism.
-
Academia – 700+ universities, colleges, and other institutes of higher learning, in the U.S. and worldwide.
-
Leading U.S. print and broadcast media outlets – including The Washington Post, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, and CNN.
