We would like to take this opportunity to follow up with you about our Summer 2017 fundraising campaign, and to thank you if you have already responded.
Since you are a valued reader of MEMRI, we are reaching out to you to help us make sure that we can cover the resources that we require so that we can continue to carry out and and distribute our research. We cannot accomplish our work without the generous assistance of our donors. In addition, maintaining several MEMRI websites is an increasingly costly undertaking. PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY CONTRIBUTED TO OUR SUMMER CAMPAIGN, CONSIDER DOING SO TODAY. Your help is critical to our success.
MEMRI makes a vital contribution to the understanding of the Arab and Muslim world among governments, media, militaries, academia, and the general public, and its research is relied on by Western and other law enforcement and intelligence agencies. It is the only organization in the world that constantly monitors, translates, and analyzes primary source content from hundreds of Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Hindi, Urdu, Pashtu, Turkish, and Russian newspapers, magazines, television shows, and online outlets, including social media, making its research available free of charge on its websites.
MEMRI monitors issues important to Western governments – ISIS's increased recruitment efforts in the West and encouragement of "lone wolf" attacks against Western targets, as the organization loses ground in the Middle East; Iran's expansion in the region, including in Syria; courageous reformists in the Arab and Muslim world; antisemitism, anti-U.S., and anti-West incitement in the region and exposure of antisemitic and pro-jihad sermons by imams in the West that leads to legal action; and more.
The following MEMRI projects still require funding this year:
-
MEMRI TV – Monitoring and translating nearly 100 Arab and Iranian channels around the clock. This project is a major resource for researchers from government, academia, legislatures, and media, providing a much deeper understanding of complex situations than can be obtained from other sources. MEMRI TV clips have had over 250 million views to date.
-
The Tom Lantos Archives on Antisemitism and Holocaust Denial – The Archives focus on antisemitism and Holocaust denial across the Arab and Muslim world, culminating in an annual event on Capitol Hill marking the release of its annual report. Recent event speakers include Sen. John McCain, French reformist Imam Hassen Chalghoumi, and Charlie Hebdo contributor Caroline Fourest.
-
Iran Studies Project – Monitoring Iran's growing expansion and might in the region, its continuing missile program, and its responses and interactions with the new U.S. administration.
-
Jihad & Terrorism Studies – Monitoring jihadi organizations and individuals: their recruitment, indoctrination, and fundraising efforts; their expansion in regions outside the Middle East and their attacks in the West, including lone-wolf attacks; their media organizations and their constant stream of output; their cyber warfare; and more.
-
Cyber Jihad Lab – Researching and translating cyber jihad content originating in the Middle East, Iran, South Asia, and Africa.
-
Reform Project – Providing a platform for voices that represent the increasing trends towards reform, democracy, equality, and human rights in the region.
-
Russian Media Studies Project – Assisting the West in understanding Russia's political discourse, vision, aims, and political scene, as well as the implications of its increased involvement in the Middle East.
-
South Asia Studies Project – Monitoring the region as ISIS and other jihadi groups expand their reach into South Asia.
