Qatar, Palestinians | Special Dispatch No. 10879

Since Hamas' October 7, 2023 attack, in which over 1,300 people were killed, some 200 people were abducted and thousands were wounded, many of the Qatari Al-Jazeera's presenters and reporters have been expressing unreserved support for Hamas and for its operatives who carried out the attack. Writing on their personal X (formerly Twitter) accounts, they justified the deadly attack and celebrated it as a victory that brought pride and honor to the Islamic nation. Many gleefully shared graphic videos and photographs showing captured Israeli soldiers being abused and bodies of dead soldiers being defaced.

It should be noted that Qatar has for years been extending financial and political support to Hamas and harboring the organization's top leaders, while its media, including Al-Jazeera, has long been inciting terror and violence against Israelis. Since the Hamas attack, Qatar's role as a platform for the organization's propaganda and declarations of war has been especially conspicuous.[1]

This report presents some of the messages posted by Al-Jazeera's journalists celebrating Hamas' mega-terror attack in Israel.

Al-Jazeera Presenter Rawaa Augé: Hamas' Attack Was Justified

On the day following the attack, Al-Jazeera presenter Rawaa Augé justified it, writing: "An unjustified attack by Hamas? That is what the international community is saying. Al-Jazeera Reporters: The Zionist Soldiers Are Paper Tigers; They Were Captured, Killed Or Ran Away Like Frightened Mice

Presenter Ahmad Mansour also shared a video showing Hamas breaching the border fence with a bulldozer in preparation for its invasion of Israel, and commented: "The fence and fortifications did not help Israel in the least, because they fell away like cobwebs."[7] The bulldozers of the resistance removed the artificial fence that separated the settlements from Gaza, while Israel, its army and its leaders stood shocked and bewildered."

In another post he wrote that the Israeli soldiers "were captured or killed, or ran away like frightened mice."[8]

Ahmad Khalifa, an Al-Jazeera correspondent in Libya, shared the video of the two Israeli soldiers and wrote: "This is the true face of the Zionist army: nothing but paper tigers."[9]

Former Al-Jazeera director Yasser Abu Hilalah shared a video issued by the military information office of Hamas' military wing, the 'Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam Brigades, documenting the infiltration of an Israeli military outpost and featuring graphic images of dead Israeli soldiers. He captioned the video: "Al-Qassam fighter explains to an Israeli soldier that the reason for this campaign is 'the trampling of the women of Jerusalem… This is about more than the siege [on Gaza]. It is about honor!"[10]
