Russian Media Outlet 'Tsargrad': Russia Created 'An Alliance With Iran And China – A Military-Political, Economic, Logistical One'

Russia | Special Dispatch No. 11041

In an article published December 20, 2023, the anti-liberal Russian media outlet Tsargrad focused on the Russia-Iran-China alliance, stating that it was the West's policy that pushed Russia to look towards the East. The article added that Russia had created a military, political, economic, logistical alliance with Iran and China and that the West "no longer" controls the world.

Below are excerpts of Tsargrad's article:[1]

'Moscow And Tehran Were Easily Perceived As Absolute Allies'

"The meeting between Russian and Iranian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ebrahim Raisi in Moscow on December 7 was shrouded in a halo of mystery. The talks were held in closed mode, and virtually no information about their outcome was publicly disclosed. The intrigue was intensified by the maliciously cheerful smiles of the leaders of the powers, with which they came out to the press after the confidential conversation...

"This atmosphere of mystery made the Western media nervous. What Putin and Raisi talked about was analyzed on live air of 'First Russian TV' by Tsargrad's political observer Andrei Perla. He outlined a number of key topics that the leaders of the countries could not help but touch upon in the framework of bilateral talks.

"The expert noted that the dialog between the heads of the states did take place in a rather unusual format: 'It is a rare case in modern diplomacy when presidents seclude themselves for as long as five hours and no one can say what they talked about...'

"Nevertheless... we can name a topic that was definitely raised during the meeting. It is, of course, about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. When the IDF and Hamas began fighting, the U.S. immediately intervened in the confrontation. They were in a hurry to push aside all other potential participants in the settlement process – first and foremost Russia. 'But strangely enough, these U.S. efforts produced the opposite result. They led to the fact that the Arab world and, more broadly, the Muslim world began to focus not on Washington in resolving the conflict but began to look for someone other than the U.S. to rely on. And the options turned out to be, to put it mildly, few. Only Russia and Iran. Moreover, Moscow and Tehran were easily perceived as absolute allies by the Middle Eastern countries with the help of the United States,' Perla emphasized.

"Accordingly, it is quite logical that the key players, Russia and Iran, on whom the situation in the region now largely depends, decided to compare their positions. In this regard, it is very symptomatic that prior to the talks Putin went on a tour in the Middle East, during which he visited Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates…

"Meanwhile, after Raisi's visit to the Russian capital, there was a telephone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. 'And again, we don't know exactly what they talked about. But it is quite clear that the Russian-Iranian proposals were brought to Netanyahu's attention. And what the essence of Moscow's position is has never been a secret. Russia is a country that consistently advocates the concept of two states for two peoples,' reminded [Perla]. The Kremlin believes that this is the only way to put an end to this century-long war, and the Palestinians should finally have an independent – not occupied by the Israelis – state. 'Whatever military victories the IDF forces win today, their result will still be the ultimate defeat, i.e. Tel Aviv's forced renunciation of the occupation of Palestinian territories,' Perla affirmed.

'The Economic Link Between Russia, Iran, And China Is Becoming The New Pivot'; 'The U.S. And Europe Themselves Pushed Moscow Into This U-Turn To The East'

"In addition, the agenda of the meeting most likely included issues related to the development of the North–South trade artery, Andrei Perla believes. This corridor runs between Russia and the Islamic Republic and integrates Iran into the new Great Silk Road. 'It is a land corridor for the transit of goods from China to Europe. The more often these agreements are talked about, the more we realize that the economic link between Russia, Iran ,and China is becoming the new pivot – or, as the West likes to say, the axis on which the entire Eurasian economy will be anchored,' [Perla] explained.

"And the big paradox is that the U.S. and Europe themselves pushed Moscow into this U-turn to the East, which is now becoming a big economic challenge for the West. They are only now beginning to realize what they have done. 'Just as they did with oil. If they hadn't touched it, nothing would have happened. If they had not imposed sanctions on Russia, it would have continued to pump gas to the West, receiving euros in return and fulfilling its obligations,' [Perla] noted.

"[Perla] also drew attention to the recent speech of Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz, who said at his party's congress party that the Russians, despite the fact that the Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 pipelines were still in good working order, had allegedly disrupted the supply of natural gas to Germany: 'And I would like to ask: Excuse me, who shut off the gas supplies? Who was it that imposed sanctions? Who was it shouting that we wanted to refuse Russian energy resources? What are you guys doing?'

'The West No Longer Controls The World'

"The Tsargrad columnist pointed out that for decades Russia has remained faithful to the structure of international relations, which was built on the principles of the UN. There are questions as to whether the obligations imposed on Moscow were fair, but in one way or another, our country, as a bona fide member of the United Nations, strictly followed them. [It did so] until the moment when the West through its sanctions itself deprived us of the technical ability to fulfill some of these requirements.

"'And what is the result of the restrictions imposed on us? Russia has practically created an alliance with Iran and China. A military-political, economic, logistical one – whatever you want. A sociological one, if you will. Excuse me, but what did you win there, in the West? Whom did you isolate from who?' Perla wondered. In [Perla's] opinion, the main result of Vladimir Putin's talks with [Iranian President] Ebrahim Raisi in Moscow was the West's isolation from the Eurasian alliance.

"Now the world is definitively divided, and with each new move of Moscow and its partners, it becomes more and more structured, [Perla] added. 'As it was said at the World Russian People's Council, the international arena now consists not of a single global civilization, but of civilization states. The Iranian civilization state, the Russian, the Chinese, the Latin American, the Indian, the Arab, the African... and the West no longer controls the world. Moreover, there is no longer even a theoretical possibility of retaining that control. This is the bottom line,' [Perla] summarized.
