Ali Hijazi, the Secretary-General of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party in Lebanon, said in an October 6, 2022 show on Al-Manar TV (Hizbullah-Lebanon) that "all" of Lebanon's officials have agreed that unless both Israel and Lebanon can drill offshore for natural gas and oil, there will be a war. He also said that Hizbullah and its allies will not tolerate Israel drilling in the Karish oil field before a solution with Lebanon is reached. Hijazi added: "If they want war, we welcome war." For more information about Ali Hijazi, see MEMRI TV Clip no. 8960. On October 11, 2022, it was announced that Israel and Lebanon reached a maritime border agreement, possibly resolving the dispute over the Karish oil field and its surrounding prospects.
Ali Hijazi: "Threats will be answered by threats, and actions will be answered by even bigger actions. All the Lebanese officials... When they were asked by the American envoy, when Hizbullah was asked by France, and when all these contacts were taking place with various Lebanese parties... Their answer was clear: Either both [countries] can drill for natural gas, or it's war. There is no third option.
"None of the forces in this country - the resistance and its allies - will tolerate Israel drilling or selling natural gas, before we reach a solution. People are saying that we are talking about war. Yes! If Israel [even] thinks of drilling for gas at the Karish field, without there being a solution with Lebanon, we will go to war. We have no option but war.
