The following are excerpts from an interview with Neturei Karta Spokesman Rabbi Dovid Weiss. Al-Manar TV aired this interview on June 18, 2005.
Rabbi Weiss: Zionism has come around a hundred years ago, a non-religious movement, people who are far from the Torah, strange totally, with a whole new concept, a political movement, and they put themselves as representatives of the Jewish people, and they've committed a tremendous criminal act. And they are speaking, so-called "in the name Jewry around the world". So, we were hijacked, the Jewish nation was hijacked by the movement of Zionism.
Host: (How) do you describe Israel now? What does Israel mean to you?
Weiss: Israel is the machination, the embodiment, the actual… the Satan, in materialistic form. That's what it is. It is… We would say "Amalek", whatever, it is… any… how we can describe it as the Satan, as I said, in a materialistic form.
Host: Do you want to eliminate Israel?
Weiss: Yes. Our way, as I say – We pray to God, every day, we have fast days, throughout the year, when they for instance, what you call "Yom Hanakba",
Host: "The Day of the Catastrophe".
Weiss: Yes. We throughout the world…
Host: 1948. You mean the day when Israel was founded.
Weiss:Yes, when Israel was founded. Every year we gather… yes… when Israel was founded…
Host: Yes.
Weiss: We get together and have fast days throughout the world. We pray and we fast on that day. And we pray that God should speedily and without any suffering to human beings, it should be totally dismantled and returned to the Palestinians.
Host: Some Arabs, Arab states and Arab regimes, they go into compromises with Israel. They recognize Israel. What do you say to them?
Weiss: We say – You know, first we have to say that we are tremendously in awe at how a people, the Arab people, are ready to make a compromise, give part of land just so they should have peace. But we say to them we can – we are thankful for them for having feeling for people, but we say that we as a Jewish people, can never make a compromise, because it's not an issue of political our warrants or something, it's according to the religion we are forbidden to have a state.
Host:But do you believe they would reach peace as they supposedly believe?
Weiss:We believe peace, true peace, can only be attained if you follow the edicts of the Torah, what the Torah dictates. That means when there will be a total dismantlement of this state. When it will be returned…
Host: Total dismantlement of what state?
Weiss: Of the State of Israel. When it would be returned to Palestinian rule. Until that day comes – it says in the Torah that if you do not do God's wishes, it will not be successful. So we believe, as I say, the Arab people, those countries, maybe they mean well, the ones who want to make compromise, but we say that we cannot compromise, it's not possible.
