Interviewer: What's your name?
Ziyad Ghani Ahmad: Ziyad Ghani Ahmad. The first man [we killed] was Mazen Chubless. He was in the trunk of the car on the road leading to Tikrit. We took him out of the car, and all I did was to cuff him. I cuffed his hands. Ali Mussa was the first to strike him, later Qayssar Hashem struck him.
Interviewer: With what did they strike him, and how?
Ziyad Ghani Ahmad: With a spear. A long spear.
Interviewer: Where was he hit?
Ziyad Ghani Ahmad: In his throat.
Interviewer: And then what? Did you shoot him?
Ziyad Ghani Ahmad: No, no.
Interviewer: So then, how?
Ziyad Ghani Ahmad: Just like that, they struck him and beheaded him, and left him there.
Interviewer: Was his head severed from his body or not?
Ziyad Ghani Ahmad: No, not at first. Qayssar Hashem finished the job.
Interviewer: And what did you do with his head?
Ziyad Ghani Ahmad: We left it beside his body.
Interviewer: Some say they would and not use the sword?
Ziyad Ghani Ahmad: We used only with a spear.
Interviewer: A spear or a cleaver?
Ziyad Ghani Ahmad: A cleaver.
Interviewer: You didn't tell us where the victim was from and what he did for a living.
Ziyad Ghani Ahmad: He was in the National Guard.
Interviewer: What was his name?
Ziyad Ghani Ahmad: His name was Mazen Chubless. That was his nickname. His real name was Mazen Ahmad.
Interviewer: Why did you kill him?
