Iranian TV host Mohsen Maghsoudi said in an August 14, 2022 show on Channel 1 (Iran) that the recent attempt on the life of British-American novelist Salman Rushdie was "welcome" and that he is very happy to see that the "historical" fatwa by Imam Khomeini calling for Rushdie's death following the publication of The Satanic Verses is still "alive". He also said that the "blessed" attack was a warning for those who support "cultural terrorism" and "harm" things that are sacred to Muslims worldwide. In addition, he said that it was also a warning to those behind the 2020 U.S. assassination of IRGC Qods Force Commander Qasem Soleimani. He elaborated that revenge is near and that these people should not sleep too soundly.
Mohsen Maghsoudi: "A welcome incident has taken place with regard to the implementation of Imam [Khomeini's] historical fatwa, which sanctioned the execution of the accursed Salman Rushdie. We were very happy [to see] that this historical fatwa is still alive. It does not matter what happened behind the scenes of this fatwa implementation... Some people talked about planning and things like that...
"It does not change the fact that this is a very blessed incident, which serves as a warning sign for people who support cultural terrorism, and who harmed, and are still harming, the most sacred things to 1.5 billion Muslims across the world. This was also a warning to the killers of Hajj Qasem [Soleimani]. They should know that revenge is near. They should know that there are free men across the world who, inshallah, will execute this revenge. They shouldn't sleep too tight."
