On October 8, 2023, the Al-Aqsa Foundation held an event in "support of Palestine and Masjid Al-Aqsa" at Masjidul Quds in Cape Town, in which attendees completed the reading of the Quran. South African Islamic Scholar Moulana Abdul Khaliq, deputy president of the Muslim Judicial Council said that everyone has gathered in the mosque to support the brothers and sisters in Hamas, and the mujahideen, "of whom we are extremely proud."
South African Islamic Scholar Shaykh Ebrahim Gabriels of the Muslim Judicial Council said that Hamas is an Islamic resistance movement and the members of the Al-Qassam Brigades, who "took over the settlements and did what they did on Saturday – they are people who are connected to Allah." Arshad Samodien of the Youth for Al-Aqsa South Africa said that he has received messages from Muslims from all over who were crying in happiness, who could not believe what happened. He added that this was a morning of honor and glory. South African Islamic scholar Shaykh Rieyaad Walls said that peace and tranquility entered his heart when he heard the news. The event was streamed live on the mosque's YouTube channel.
Moulana Abdul Khaliq: "Every one of us gathered here as one ummah of the Prophet Muhammad to give a very clear message to the Zionists on the one hand – that your days are numbered – and to give our solidarity and support to our brothers and our sisters in Hamas, and our mujahideen [who] are extremely brave and [who] we are proud of."

Shaykh Ebrahim Gabriels: "['Hamas' means] 'Islamic resistance movement' -- they are people who are connected to the Quran. You can't join [Hamas's military wing the Izz Al-Din] Al-Qassam Brigades if you [do not pray]. In fact, you need to pray the [optional] nighttime prayer. You need to fast every Monday and Thursday. You must at least memorize ten parts of the Quran before you can join the Al-Qassam Brigades. Those are the people that took over the settlements, and did what they did on Saturday [October 7, 2023]. They are people who are connected to Allah."

Arshad Samodien: "Today, and in this moment, even when we say 'Allah is the greatest and all praise belongs to Him,' even in our hearts it feels greater. We have brothers – your brothers – all over the world who sent messages yesterday that said they cannot believe what is happening, crying out of happiness. For 75 years, our mothers and our fathers and our brothers and sisters have been living under the continuous, brutal regime of the Zionist machine.

"And that morning came yesterday morning, a morning of greatness and of honor."
Crowd: "Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar!"
Samodien: "When our brothers and sisters... They did not prepare for this for [just one] day and night. Do you think that they could do what they did yesterday and what they are continuing to do as we sit here [having] prepared for [just] a week or two weeks? No, by Allah. They have been preparing for this for years."

Shaykj Rieyaad Walls: "But this time it's something different, oh Muslims. By Allah, when I got the news yesterday, it was like a contentment, and peace and tranquility, entered my heart."
