Following are excerpts from an interview with Egyptian presidential candidate Sheik Hazem Abu Ismail, which aired on Mehwar TV on November 21, 2011:
Hazem Abu Ismail: Who says that we do not believe in democracy? We consider democracy to be part of a duality of A and B. Democracy is B, but prior to it, we are all worshippers of Allah. For us democracy is sacred and is held in high esteem, which cannot be violated as long as it does not transgress religious prohibitions, as long as it is not against our Lord.
