In a Friday, April 7, 2023 sermon posted to his YouTube channel, Israeli Islamist leader Sheikh Kamal Al-Khatib compared the 350 Palestinians recently arrested by Israeli authorities at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound to the Jews during the Holocaust. He said that these were the two times in history that people were given numbers, adding: "It is difficult to grasp that people who tasted the bitterness of this violation of people’s humanity would do the same thing to others."
Kamal Al-Khatib: "Twice in history, the sanctity of human beings was violated by turning them into mere numbers. You are no longer a human being, with a father and a mother, but a number. The first time was when Hitler carried out his criminal, atrocious act against the Jews, and forced them to have numbers tattooed [on their arms]. Some of them, who are still alive today, remind the world: 'Look what Hitler did to us. He turned us into numbers, with no names, no fathers, and no mothers. That was the first time.
"The second time was when they arrested 350 young [Palestinians] last Thursday night at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and put a number on each one of them. You are number 45, you are 37, you are number 350... It is difficult to grasp that people who tasted the bitterness of this violation of people's humanity would do the same thing to others."
