Hizbullah-affiliated academic Sheikh Sadek Al-Naboulsi said in an April 21, 2024 interview with OTV (Lebanon) said that the element of surprise that existed prior to October 7 has been lost, but that Hizbullah is nonetheless making preparations to cross into the Galilee in northern Israel. He said that Hizbullah is awaiting Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah's orders when the "time is right," and he explained that liberating Palestine and annihilating Israel are fundamental components of Hizbullah's culture. He also said that Hizbullah would have lost the narrative war had it joined the war in full force immediately after October 7, but that now after the world has seen Israel's massacres and genocide in Gaza, the world has had the time to change its mind.

Sheikh Sadek: "Today, the element of surprise that could have existed prior to October 7 is lost. The Palestinian resistance has carried out its attack, without informing any of its allies in advance, as it is well known by now. The way the war has developed did not allow for a new opportunity to surprise the Israeli enemy and cross the border.

"However, the idea of crossing the border into the Galilee still exists, preparation and plans are being made, and when the time is right, sayyed [Nasrallah] will give the order to rip off all those gates – green gates, blue gates, whatever – and to cross into the Galilee. We have been raised on the slogan of... In the milieu of Hizbullah and the resistance, we would always chant in our military marches: 'March on towards Jerusalem!' There is something basic and fundamental in our culture about the need to liberate Jerusalem and to annihilate Israel.

[...]

"If Hizbullah and the resistance axis had joined and the war at full scale, we would have lost the battle over the narrative. Israel has founded its existence and its claimed right to land of Palestine or persuading the world to believe in a historical narrative about Palestine being the homeland of the Palestinians [sic], the Promised Land. It has mobilized the whole world behind it... The Holocaust, and so forth...

"Had we carried out our great offensive back then, we would have lost the world. The world would have rejected us. The world would have labeled the Palestinians "terrorists," and say that Hizbullah and the resistance axis want to kill that democratic country, that democratic oasis in the region – that we want to annihilate it and throw it into the sea. This would have united the entire West against us. Today however, as a result of what has happened – the massacre, the genocide, the five months that have passed...This time was extremely necessary for the world to change its mind."
