On March 18, 2019, Al-Furqan, the media arm of the Islamic State (ISIS), released an audio recording featuring the group's spokesman Abu Al-Hassan Al-Muhajir calling on ISIS supporters in the West to avenge the recent killing of Muslims in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Al-Muhajir then conveyed a message from ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, from whom fighters had not heard in some time, in which he urged fighters to "be fearful of Allah in public and in private... and to avoid use of cellphones," saying that "they have caused major harm and brought great calamities [to Muslims]."
About the attack at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand Al-Muhajir said: "The deadly scene in the two mosques, should awaken those who have forgotten and encourage the supporters of the Caliphate who live there to seek revenge, and avenge for their religion and the sons of their religion who are being killed everywhere under the sponsorship and endorsement of the countries of the Crusade and the governments of apostasy and treason."
