On December 4, 2023 the Kuwaiti Al-Jarida daily reported, quoting a "senior security sources," that Lebanese Hizbullah possesses hundreds of Iranian-made Shahed-136 suicide drones, posing a grave threat to Israel. These drones cannot be disabled technically and can only be downed using fighter jets or missiles. The article noted that Hizbullah has launched these drones at Israel several times since the beginning of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, Iran-backed militias have launched them at Israel from Syria, and the Houthis have launched them at Eilat and at ships in the Red Sea. These drones have also been used in Ukraine and against Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
