Second Issue Of Al-Qaeda's 'Al-Risalah' Magazine Provides Information On Cyber Security, Warns Jihadis To Not Use TrueCrypt

October 28, 2015

The second issue of Al-Risalah, Jabhat Al-Nusra's English-language magazine, which was released on October 25, 2015, included an article on cyber security and encryption. In the article, the Global Islamic Media Front (GIMF) urged jihadis to only use trusted encryption programs that were developed by the mujahideen. GIMF also warned jihadis to not use similar programs that were developed by the "infidels" such as TrueCrypt and VeraCrypt.

GIMF urged jihadis to use established cyber security measures in order avoid capture by the various intelligence agencies: "If the head of the Crusader West, America, uses these tools to spy on its own citizens and allies, then just imagine what it has deployed against the mujahideen."

Among the trusted encryption programs GIMF recommended were Asrar Al-Mujahideen, Asrar Al-Dardashah, the mobile version of Asrar Al-Mujahideen, and Amn Al-Mujahid. The latter was developed by Al-Fajr Technical Committee (FTC), while the rest were developed by GIMF's "Technical Department." GIMF noted that these programs "are the arrows in your quiver to pierce the eyes of the spies."
