Four official Wall Street Journal accounts were hijacked May 6 by the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA). The hack was in response to a presentation by security researcher Ira Winkler at an RSA conference on the methods used by the SEA and how to respond to them.
The hacked @WSJD account tweeted the photo of Ira Winkler's head placed on the body of a cockroach. with a short statement saying "@Irawinkler is a cockroach."
Winkler had said in his presentation that people claiming to be helping the SEA are "like the cockroaches of the internet" and that the attacks were low-tech.
Following the conference, the SEA tweeted "3 reports, So it will be 3 attacks.. Brace yourselves."
The WSJ hacking was the second attack. Previously, also in response to the presentation, the SEA hacked the RSA Conference website, posting the following:
