Syrian Opposition Website: Iran-Backed Militias Practice Operation Of Iraqi-Made Drones In Eastern Syria, Plan To Transfer Drones For Attacks Against U.S. Bases

On December 3, 2023, a Syrian pro-opposition website quoted "exclusive sources" stating that a day earlier, Iran-backed militias conducted training sessions on the operation of drones in the city of Al-Bukamal, southeast of Deir Al-Zour.

According to the sources, the training included the use of Iraqi-made Saqr-1 drones, obtained by the Iraqi groups of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), Hizbullah Brigades, Imam 'Ali Battalions, and Islamic Resistance in Iraq. The sources detailed that the training sessions, which were overseen by several PMU commanders and included five drone launches, were held in the presence of several commanders in Iran-backed militias, including Hajj 'Abbas, commander of Iran-backed militias in Al-Bukamal. They added that Iran-backed militias planned to send several drones and drone specialists to the cities of Al-Mayadin and Deir Al-Zour, to be used in upcoming attacks against U.S. bases east of the Euphrates.
