Syrian Opposition Outlet: Iran Deploys 150 Afghan And Iraqi Fighters To Syria's Deir Al-Zour

A Syrian opposition website reported that 150 Afghan and Iraqi fighters were deployed from Iraq to Syria under the auspices of Iran.

150 Afghan And Iraqi Fighters Transported To Syria By Iran's Security Bureau

The website, Deirezzor24, published an article on August 14, 2024, titled "Military Reinforcements for Militias Supported by Iran Arrive from Iraq to Albukamal." The article reported that, according to the website's correspondents, about 150 Iran-backed militias fighters of Iraqi and Afghan nationality were deployed from Iraq to Albukamal, Syria.

The fighters reportedly entered Syria via the Albukamal crossing, whereafter buses belonging to the Syrian Government transported them in two batches to the country's southern border. According to the correspondents, the fighters were moved under the protection of Iran's security bureau.

The article also noted that, upon arrival, the fighters were immediately stationed at military headquarters on the outskirts of the city of Albukamal and in the Al-Salihiyyah desert in eastern Deir Al-Zour.
