Special Announcements No. 790

The Middle East remains a very complex region that challenges Western understanding – not least because of language. For over two decades, MEMRI's mission has been to "bridge the language gap" between the Arab and Muslim world – including Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and North Africa – and the West. MEMRI has been providing vital research, primary source translations, and original analysis, assisting governments, policy makers, law enforcement and intelligence agencies, media, academia, and the general public in understanding what is really being said in the region.

As jihadi and white-supremacist antisemitism spike worldwide, MEMRI has increased monitoring and documenting it. MEMRI's Country Studies focus on the regions of greatest interest and relevance to the West, and its Russian Media Studies project publishes translations from media in addition to original analysis, focusing on the discourse within the country's political and defense community.

So far in 2019, we have published 303 Special Dispatch translations, 37 Inquiry and Analysis reports, and 16 Daily Briefs, released 396 MEMRI TV clips that have had a total of over 20 million views, and sent out 428 emails of translations and research to readers like you.

Today, we are asking you, our valued reader, to help ensure that we can continue our work. Thank you for your consideration.

No other organization in the world is doing the work that MEMRI does.

PLEASE SUPPORT MEMRI TODAY

Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and around the world, MEMRI staffers produce  cutting-edge research on the entire region, covering:

  • Iran – Monitoring, studying, and translating from Iranian media – statements by regime, military, and religious leaders and more – more relevant than ever as Iran-U.S. tensions rise.

  • Saudi Arabia and the Gulf – This region is also coming increasingly under attack from Iran, as Israel-Gulf relations expand.

  • Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon – Iran-backed Shi'ite militias are growing in strength in Iraq; personnel changes in the Syrian regime reflect Russia's increasing influence; and Hezbollah and its allies expand their control in the Lebanese government as Hezbollah continues tunneling into Israel from southern Lebanon.

  • Palestinian Authority and Gaza – As more Arab voices urge the Palestinians to consider the Trump administration's peace plan, Palestinian Authority officials continue to declare their support for terrorists and Hamas fires more Iranian-made missiles into the heart of Israel and continues sponsoring attempts to breach the border.

  • South Asia – The MEMRI South Asia Studies Project's reports and in-depth analyses focus on Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India, including issues connected to cultural and religious freedom, emerging threats to international security, and the spread of jihadism in the region.

  • Russia – As Russia further expands its role and influence in Syria and throughout the Middle East, it simultaneously is bolstering its alliances with parts of Europe, South America, and more.

HELP US MEET 2019 FUNDING NEEDS FOR MEMRI PROJECTS

Your tax-deductible donation will help us fund the following projects for this year:

  • Sermons Project – Exposing radical imams preaching antisemitism, Holocaust denial, and extremism, this project has so far produced nearly 70 clips of hate-filled sermons at mosques in the U.S. and Canada.

  • Online Incitement Project – Examining white-supremacist incitement, hatred, and extremism on social media and where it coincides and intersects with similar content on similar platforms by jihadis.

  • Reform Project – Seeking out and amplifying the voices of Arab and Muslim figures and intellectuals who preach tolerance, coexistence, promote civil, human, and women's rights, and speak out against and counter hatred, antisemitism, and jihad.

  • MEMRI TV – Our flagship MEMRI TV Project has produced many thousands of clips with hundreds of millions of views and maintains the largest archives in the world of such translated content.

  • The MEMRI Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor (JTTM) Project – Monitoring, tracking, and researching organizations and groups such as ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and their offshoots and sympathizers across the globe. This project has provided vital and timely information to authorities in the U.S. and across the West for arrests and prosecutions.

  • The MEMRI Cyber and Jihad Lab (CJL) – Tracking and researching jihadi and other hacktivist groups and activity emanating from the region, and studying jihadis on social media and online.

  • The MEMRI Turkish Media Project – We are seeking to resume research for this project, after a suspension of activity for a few years, in light of the rising tension between the U.S. and Turkey.
