Syrian Government Daily: The U.S. is Behind the Xinjiang Riots

August 27, 2009
, Syria, China | Special Dispatch No. 2490

In a recent article in the Syrian government daily Al-Thawra, Syrian columnist Dr. Farid Hatem Al-Shahf wrote that it was the U.S. that was instigating the rioting by the Muslim Uighur minority in Xinjiang, China. The U.S.'s goal in doing so, he explained, was to pressure China so that it would agree to purchase U.S. government bonds and thus rescue the collapsing U.S. economy. Titled "The Reaction of the Chinese Dragon Will Not Be Long in Coming," the article stated that the U.S. will not achieve its goal, since China is determined to exploit the global economic crisis to enhance up its own status at America's expense.

Following are excerpts from the article: [1]

"The Media Is Ignoring the Fact That... What Has Been Done and Is Still Being Done to the Muslims in China... is Clearly Instigated by the U.S."

"While the G-8 countries were preparing for their [July 8-10, 2009] summit in Italy, and counting on China to help resolve the economic crisis that has beset them, and on the eve of Obama's [July 6-8, 2009] visit to Moscow, the U.S. started to employ its usual dirty old [tricks] to pressure China. [That is,] it triggered rioting in Xinjiang province, [which is populated by members of the Muslim] Uighur [minority].

"The strange paradox is that those [who are now pretending to] defend the Muslims' rights throughout the world showed no interest, and did not demand a U.N. Security Council meeting, when they witnessed the daily massacres perpetrated by U.S. forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, and did not bat an eye at the extermination of the Muslims in Gaza, which also occurred, and still occurs, on a daily basis.

"But wonder of wonders, they set up a great outcry over the Muslims of Xinjiang, who are [actually] victims of riots arranged by dubious circles in the U.S. and the West. The media, which has [always] turned a blind eye, and is still turning a blind eye, to the actions of the U.S. and its allies against Muslims all over the world, was summoned to cover the events [in Xinjiang]. It [continued to] ignore the fact that what was done and is still being done to the Muslims in China and elsewhere is clearly instigated by the U.S.

"The U.S. is worried because China is delaying its response to the demand that it purchase American bonds in order to rescue the [failing] U.S. economy. The U.S. knows very well that only China can help it out of its crisis. [Moreover,] the U.S. administration thinks that China is more motivated than any other country to rescue the American economy, because it wants to guarantee the repayment of the [U.S.] debt [to China], which, in Bush's era, swelled to approximately $700 billion. It is also known that when Obama presented his plan for saving the U.S. economy, he was counting on China."

America's Instigation of Civil Wars and 'Color Revolutions' Will End Only With the End of the U.S. Hegemony over the World

"But in light of the global economic crisis, China has its own unique plan and strategy. It has begun to focus heavily on the Shanghai [Cooperation] Organization, whose international influence is growing, [and has also begun] to take part in finding solutions for international problems, becoming an active player in international politics.

"Observers see the [SCO] as a substitute for the Warsaw Pact. It was established to preserve the Chinese and Russian influence over Eurasia and Central Asia, in response to the U.S.' attempts to impose its control over these regions, which are of strategic importance to the two giants - Russia and China. The [joint] Russian-Chinese war games of summer 2007 confirm [this analysis].

"The last [SCO] summit, which convened June 15, 2009 in Yekaterinburg, [Russia,] showed that the U.S. influence over Eurasia and Central Asia was beginning to fade. The summit dealt with the need to find a substitute for the dollar, which means that America's collapse is imminent...

"Pressuring China by instigating ethnic riots [in Xinjiang] will only increase China's determination to meet all the challenges and continue dissolving the American hegemony - not only in Eurasia and Central Asia, but throughout the world - especially [considering that] the U.S. is in the midst of a deep economic crisis and is sunk in numerous quagmires around the world. In this situation, the only thing it can do is trigger civil wars and 'color revolutions' [2] in various countries, with the aid of its gangs that still have connections in various [parts of the world].

"All this will come to an end only with the end of the American hegemony over the world."
