EXCLUSIVE REPORT

Video from Pakistani Taliban: Execution of 'Spies' Who Confess to Guiding Drone Strikes

Jihadist websites recently posted a video from the Pakistani Taliban documenting the execution of two individuals who "confessed" to spying for the U.S. - specifically, guiding drone strikes on militant safe havens in Pakistan's tribal region. The alleged spies, identified in the video as Deen Wali and Ghairat Khan, were accused of helping the Pakistani security forces and of planting "chips" in buildings used by the militants, thereby leading to the airstrikes. The "chips" are presumably a reference to homing devices. According to the Taliban's allegations, the two planted these devices in Kesora, a village near the town of Mir Ali in Pakistan's tribal district of North Waziristan. The Kesora center is used by militants loyal to Taliban commander Hafiz Gul Bahadur, one of the key militant leaders in Pakistan. The tribal districts of South and North Waziristan are situated along the Afghan border.

Al-Fajr and GIMF: 'Crusaders' Stole Our Online Identities

On and around September 11, 2009, the jihadi internet was the target of what appeared to be an orchestrated cyber attack. The two most important jihadist forums, Al-Falluja and Shumukh Al-Islam, went offline, and other forums were also disabled for varying periods. (A number of smaller forums were unaffected.)

These disruptions occurred in concert with the re-launch of Al-Ekhlaas, an important forum that had been inactive for a year. Online jihadists, however, were suspicious of the revived Al-Ekhlaas, and a consensus quickly developed that it was a fake controlled by an intelligence agency, despite the fact that it contained all the old Al-Ekhlaas content.

The theory was that with the major forums down, the attackers hoped that online jihadists would gravitate to the new Al-Ekhlaas, where data could be collected on them.
