Dariush Sajjadi, an Iranian journalist who supports the Islamic Republic and who lives in the United States, said in a May 18, 2019, interview on Ofogh TV that he does not have a U.S. citizenship, saying that in order to do so one was to recite the "loathsome" oath of allegiance to the United States. He said that America embodies tyranny and he criticized the many Iranian-Americans who had the "audacity" to recite the oath and become Americans.
Interviewer: "The way that you defended the Islamic Republic here on this show – it could be that many of the conservatives and revolutionaries wouldn't do that. Don't you see a contradiction [in the fact that] you are defending the Islamic Republic despite being an American citizen?"

Dariush Sajjadi: "I'm not an American citizen – I have a Green Card. If you want to get citizenship, you have to go to a Federal court in America, pledge allegiance in an official ceremony, and recite that loathsome oath. I objected to all Iranians who do this, and who, in their audacity, recite that oath... After all, they are explicitly stating that they renounce their allegiance to their country of origin and totally commit themselves to the U.S. such that they would even bear arms and fight for it. This is the same citizenship that... Unfortunately, America is the embodiment of tyranny... America is the only country that fixed such a format for its oath of allegiance. There are other places where there is no obligation to pledge allegiance. America decided this [must be done] and, unfortunately, most Iranians – over 98% of the Iranians living in America – have shamelessly recited that oath of allegiance, and have become Americans."
