In his November 22, 2024 Friday sermon, Mohammad Badawy, Director of the Muslim American Society (MAS) Youth Center in Brooklyn, said that he is not intimidated by “anti-Muslim” organizations such as MEMRI, which he claimed receives tens of millions of dollars in annual donations, or by Bill H.R. 9495, which would allow the government to revoke tax exemptions from mosques or non-profits accused of supporting terrorism. Badawy stated that these efforts are doomed to fail because of Allah's will, and he encouraged congregants to contact their senators to oppose the bill. In October, Badawy spoke at the Flood NYC for Gaza march, marking the anniversary of October 7, alongside Abdullah Akl, an organizer with the group Within Our Lifetime, which organized the event. During the march, participants were seen waving flags of U.S.-designated terror groups Hizbullah and Hamas’s Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam Brigades. Notably, Mohammad Badawy has delivered speeches and sermons at Brooklyn College, CCNY, and John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

Mohammad Badawy: "It doesn't scare me when I hear that anti-Muslim think tanks like the Middle East Forum or MEMRI or the David Horowitz Foundation or any of these [that] received tens of millions of dollars in donations every year. I'm not afraid.

"When the House of Representatives just passed Bill H.R. 9495 that will give the government the ability to shut down any non-profit, any masjid [mosque], any news agency immediately without due process, with just the accusation of terrorism. I'm not stressed or filled with anxiety about what's going to happen to our community. Because I know that these efforts, this money, this organization, this coordination between all of them is doomed to fail, because Allah said so.

"Contact your senator and say: 'I demand that when this bill, Bill H.R. 9495, it has already passed the House of Representatives, and the next step is that it must pass the Senate. And once it passes the Senate it becomes a law. So I demand that when it comes on your floor in the Senate that you oppose it, you vote no.' Bill H.R. 9495 will give the government the right to shut down any non-profit immediately, without any proceedings, and it's already halfway there. You call your Senator, you email, and you make a separate inquiry for each member of your family: 'I demand that you vote no on this, that it does not pass. It is unconstitutional, it is against our freedoms.' The least that you can do to promote and protect the dawah in your country, that you and your family and your descendants will desperately need."
