The following are excerpts from the "Best Bush Effigy" competition, heldin Tehran during the demonstrations marking the 26th anniversary of the Islamic revolution in Iran. The Iranian news channel IRINN aired the competition:
Reporter: One of the unique and interesting programs of the Islamic Revolution anniversary parade was the contest of the "effigies of arrogance." This contest was held in response to the US president's babbling. When the effigy makers had completed the route of the parade, they presented their works [to be judged] at the eastern side of Azadi Square.
Reporter: Hello.
Young demonstrator: Hello.
Reporter: What is this?
Young demonstrator: It is a mouse.
Reporter: A mouse?
Young demonstrator: Yes.
Reporter: Who does he look like?
Young demonstrator: Mr. Bush.
Reporter: How long did it take to make this?
Young demonstrator: Two days.
Reporter: You put two days into this?
Young demonstrator: Yes.
Reporter: What place will you get?
Young demonstrator: I Don't know.
Reporter: What is this?
Young demonstrator: This is America.
Reporter: Death to America.
Young demonstrator: Death to America.
Young demonstrator: This model is called Bush.
Reporter: How long did it take to make it?
Young demonstrator: Almost two weeks.
Reporter: Did it enter the contest?
Young demonstrator: Yes.
Reporter: What place?
Young demonstrator: So far, they have only given us numbers. Mine is 104.
Young demonstrator: This is one of the models of global arrogance, America.
Reporter: How long did it take to make it?
Young demonstrator: Two days.
Reporter: What's the name of this effigy?
Young demonstrator: "Bush's dad."
Reporter: "Bush's dad?"
Young demonstrator: Yes?
Reporter: How long did it take to make it?
Young demonstrator: Two to three hours.
Reporter: Do you think you will win?
Young demonstrator: I don't know… Bur I'd like to say that if Bush and his dad want to look good, they'll look like this.
Crowd:Death to America, death to America.
Reporter: How many people signed have up for the contest?
Contest organizer: So far, we've got 150 works. The excitement is so great, and the people are so angry about Bush's recent statements that they are attacking the effigies.
Reporter: At the end of the event 50 golden coins were given to the top 50 works.
