Britain-based Palestinian academic and activist Dr. Azzam Al-Tamimi said in a June 20, 2019 panel on Al-Hiwar TV that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is the most free mosque in the Islamic world and that the worshippers who go there have the most freedom compared to anywhere in the Islamic world. He illustrated his point by saying that worshippers in Al-Aqsa were free to pray for the soul of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi while worshippers in areas controlled by the Palestinian Authority had been prohibited from doing so.
Dr. Azzam Al-Tamimi: "The Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is held by the Zionists, is the most free [mosque] in the Islamic world."
Panelist: "True."
Dr. Azzam Al-Tamimi: "The people who frequent it are the most free in the Islamic world. In the areas controlled by the Palestinian Authority... The Al-Aqsa Mosque is not part of the Palestinian Authority..."
Panelist: "Right."
Dr. Azzam Al-Tamimi: "In the areas controlled by the Palestinian Authority, people were prevented from praying [for Morsi's soul]."
