British-Palestinian surgeon and activist Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah, who was recently elected as the rector of Glasgow University, said in a video posted on the Sifr Magazine YouTube channel on December 28, 2023 that the war in Gaza should be expanded to become a regional war. He explained that any outcome in a war that only involves Israel would be limited because Israel is a "subordinate" of the "system," and even a ceasefire might result in Israeli tanks being pulled out of Gaza but in Gaza remaining under siege. Rather, he argued that a regional war would forcibly create a situation that could change the entire "system," which he said consists of America, Israel, Arab collaborators, the WHO, the World Bank, the IMF, and the Red Cross. Ghassan is the son of Palestinian historian Salman Abu Sitta (see MEMRI TV Clips No. 4832 and No. 7266).
Ghassan Abu Sittah: "I believe that it is so important to expand the [Gaza] war so it becomes a regional war, because we are required to negotiate with a system, not just with one of the subordinates of that system. If we negotiate a ceasefire with the Israelis, they will pull their tanks out [of Gaza], but will keep the siege. They will pull their tanks out, but the World Bank will withhold funds, and the banks might prevent the transfer of the funds that are deposited in Beirut, in Amman, and in the Arab countries.
"A regional war will force the entire system – the Americans, their Israeli and Arab collaborators, and their subordinates like the WHO, the World Bank, the IMF, and the Red Cross... You will not be able to negotiate with these subordinates, unless the Americans have to deal with a regional war."
