Chen Binhua, the spokesman of the Chinese State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, said in a press statement that was posted on the New China TV YouTube channel on March 10, 2024 that peaceful reunification is the basic principle for solving the Taiwan issue and that it serves the interests of the Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. He said that China will sincerely pursue peaceful reunification, but that it will reserve the option to take any measures necessary to achieve national reunification, including the use of force. He also said that the current situation is complex because the Taiwanese DPP has been working with "external forces" to incite Taiwanese independence. He added that China is strong and will advance national reunification while frustrating any attempts to divide the country.
Chen Binhua: "The policies of peaceful reunification and 'One Country, Two Systems' are basic principles for resolving the Taiwan question, and the best way to realize national reunification of China. The policies best serve the interests of Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and the entire Chinese nation.
"We are willing to create vast space, for peaceful reunification, and continue to strive for peaceful unification with the greatest sincerity and the utmost effort, but we will never promise to renounce the use of force, and we reserve the option of taking all measures necessary.
"This is directed solely at interference by outside forces and the few separatists seeking 'Taiwan Independence' and their activities. The current situation across Taiwan remains complex and challenging, and the root cause is that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan have been making provocations in collusion with external forces in an attempt to seek 'Tawain independence.'
"We have firm will, full confidence and strong capability to frustrate any attempt in any form to divide that country, safeguard national sovereignty and territory integrity, and unswervingly advance the cause of national reunification."
