Chinese President Xi Jinping said at an April 9, 2024 meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that China and Russia have maintained diplomatic relations for 75 years and that they have recently embarked on a new path of harmonious coexistence and cooperation. In response, Lavrov praised Xi's leadership of China and said that the two countries will work together to advance the strategic missions proposed by Xi and by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Xi Jinping: "First of all, I would like to ask you to convey my sincere greetings to President Putin. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Russia. China and Russia have jointly embarked on a new path of harmonious coexistence and win-win cooperation between major countries and neighbors. I had a phone conversation with President Putin in February this year making new plans and arrangements for the development of China-Russia relations. We agreed to continue to maintain close contacts, have timely communication and coordination on bilateral relations and the strategic, overarching and forward-looking issues in international and regional affairs, so as to ensure that China-Russia relations always advance smoothly and steadily."
Sergey Lavrov: "President Putin asked me to convey his warm greetings and best wishes to you. The reelection of President Putin as the head of state has further ensured the continuity of the development of bilateral relations. We are glad to witness the achievements, especially those made over the past decade under your leadership. I hope we can take the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties as an opportunity to work with China and fully implement the new strategic missions proposed by the two heads of state."
