Egypt Uprising: Egyptian TV Host Amr Adib Mocks Iranian Leader Khamenei for Interfering in Egypt's Internal Affairs

#2799 | 02:34
Source: Al-Hayat (Egypt)

Following are excerpts from a statement by Egyptian TV host Amr Adib, which aired on Al-Hayat TV on February 7, 2011:

Amr Adib: That man of Iran [Khamenei] never speaks a word of Arabic. He would sit with the Arab leaders everywhere, and would refuse to speak with them in Arabic. He would speak in Farsi. All of a sudden, last Friday, when he wanted to address the Egyptian people, he spoke in Arabic. After always talking in Farsi – "Sha shi shi sha she" – he started speaking Arabic all of a sudden.

Secondly, please remind me what happened in Iran, when you had the popular uprising. Don't you remember? After the elections in Iran, when the people took to the streets – what did they do to them? Was it appropriate for us to say that the Iranian people should revolt? Was there even a single camera on the streets of Tehran? They called it "the cell phone revolution" because the only pictures that came out of Iran were taken on cell phones. All of a sudden you care about human rights?!

The Iranians have discovered that there are human rights violations in Egypt. You tortured the youth. One presidential candidate was killed, another was placed under house arrest, and a third... Take a look – where is ElBaradei? Where are the Muslim Brotherhood? They are all free, out on the streets.

I'm not saying that we live in a paradise, but people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Don't come and preach to us about human rights. You tortured people. You have the largest detention centers and the greatest security apparatuses, which beat up the youth on the streets. But when anybody dares to open his mouth, you go: "Sha shina ma tasha sha shuna lashis" – which means: "Nobody should intervene in Iran's affairs."

Besides, do our youth even need the support of Iran? Where have you been until now? Where you on January 25, when they risked their lives and took to the streets? None of them knows Tehran.
